Fortune Cookie Friday: Happiness in the New Year
I found it very convenient that my FCF post fell on New Year’s Day, especially considering the concept. We all start out the New Year with aspirations of improving ourselves. Many people make resolutions to lose weight or find true love. Some want to aim at working harder or making better grades in school. We look at ourselves and are unhappy with who we are. We tell ourselves that if we just change this one thing, we will be happy.
Happiness comes from within. You may have heard great prophets proclaim that advice, but there is more to it than that. You cannot just be happy; it must come from your observation of the world around you. You have to let the happiness around you fill you up.
There are so many wonderful things in this world. We have to look past all of the bad and focus on the things that fill us with warmth. As Frank Sinatra once crooned, “We have to look at the world through rose colored glasses.”
Looking at the World Through Rose Colored Glasses – Frank Sinatra
There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets to witness. Fabulous foods are available to entice our senses. There is music in the chirping of the birds or whistling of the wind through the branches. The melodic sound of children laughing can brighten your spirits. Even slipping on a warm pair of fuzzy socks can slide a little happiness into your heart. Once we allow the happiness in, we can warm our souls and let it shine from our faces. That is how the happiness comes from within.
With your heart full of happiness, from the wondrous things around, you can now move on to feeling the best thing of all, joy.
