Fortune Cookie Friday: Crack Open Your Can-Do Spirit
Have you ever had one of those days when nothing goes your way? You’re running late, you spilled lunch on your clothes—you get my drift. It feels like the cosmos is against you. No matter what you do, tasks feel impossible.
I’ve felt that way many times. Heck, I crack open fortune cookies, searching for inspiration when life feels impossible. Can a tiny slip of paper change that?
Some things, with our current knowledge of the universe, are impossible. No two objects can occupy the same place at the same time, energy can’t be created or destroyed, and we can’t travel faster than the speed of light. Science fiction writers may suggest that these things happen in their stories, but that’s not reality.
Not everything is impossible, though. Sometimes we have great days, with perfect weather and no red lights. Ah, the bliss! They may not happen often, but when they do, we can feel like we can do anything. So, how do we have more of those great days?
FORTUNE: Impossible is a word only to be found in the dictionary of fools.
Life can be challenging, but we shouldn’t limit ourselves to thinking our goals are impossible. I’ve written about patience, persistence, and perseverance before, and how those qualities can help us succeed. Today, I want to discuss having the right mindset for success.
Some things may be difficult for us to do, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do them. We shouldn’t give up trying just because something isn’t easy. What’s unattainable today can be accomplished tomorrow if we can see the success in our mind.
A can-do attitude is the power behind all successful people. Great athletes envision crossing the finish line even before they start the race. We should do the same with our goals. We should keep them firmly in our minds so that we don’t waver during the challenging parts of life.
Remember those great days, when everything went right? That feeling is the same can-do attitude. We don’t need any potion like Harry Potter’s “Liquid Luck.” We can persevere just by telling ourselves that we can. The little train said, “I think I can.” Nike® had an ad that said, “Just do it.” Visualizing success brings us closer to succeeding.
So, the next time you crack open a fortune cookie or face a tough day, remind yourself: impossible is just a word. Picture your goal, believe you can achieve it, and take that first step. Whether you’re a kid dreaming of becoming an astronaut or an adult tackling a big project, your mindset is your superpower. Keep that can-do spirit alive, and watch how many “impossible” things become possible.
What’s one “impossible” goal you’re ready to tackle with a can-do attitude? Share it with someone today, and let’s inspire each other to keep pushing forward!
